Situation A leading private-equity firm purchased an equipment components division from a multi-national conglomerate and initiated the division’s first strategic planning cycle. Senior management raised questions about the underlying strategic direction of three acquired business divisions.
Background Reviewed past plans and concluded that the strategy, objectives, and action plans for the businesses lacked direction and substantiation. Met with each management team and mapped out the process leading to new strategic plans.

- Engaged each team to develop a bottom-up plan including industry segment sizing, distribution channel identification, competitor assessment and end-use market segment analysis.
- Prepared SWOT assessment and identified growth areas:
      1. new and improved products;
      2. channel and customer expansion.
- Led each management team in defining objectives, strategies and implementation plans; ensured cohesion with growth expectations and resources.
Result Corporate management and private-equity group approved all new plans and green-lighted implementation.
